2007 EVENT FEEDBACK

The following feedback on the 2007 event is published courtesy of Runners World - www.runnersworld.co.uk

“Excellent route - single-track roads through picturesque quiet countryside. Surprisingly fast given the hills (maybe that was something to do with the cold and rain though...) bananas and oranges at the end - always good.”

“Third time I've done this, and still fantastic fun. Very friendly and although the hills are a killer definately worth the effort. Great Organisation.”

“Excellent race despite the weather. A very big thank you to all the marshals and spectators who turned out on a very wet day. You were brilliant! Excellent organisation. Will definitely be back next year. Thank you!”

“I don't do many races but lots of people I knew seemed to have turned up for this one - so it was very sociable. And it had lots of the 'big race' attributes even though it's only small-ish - chip timing, bottled water at one of the two water stations, good km marking, spectators, v. good info booklet.”

“The race seems to have a great local reputation and some runners had travelled quite a long way to get there. I entered on the day and they were officially over the 500 limit - but they managed to fit me and lots of others in anyway - thanks to the tireless team of ladies in charge. Oh, and they even had up to date results printouts going up every few minutes - amazing!”

“Despite the rain loads of people turned out to watch and there was quite a party atmosphere.”

“Not really PB material because of the dreaded up bits (the first 3km, little bits between, then most of the last km - a killer) but very pretty and some stalwart cheering from sodden spectators all round the route. A fab downhill section at about 7km (but what goes down, has already gone well and truly up... and will do again).”

“Everybody tackling this race afresh would be well served to pay attention to race organiser Chris Bellwood's advice: "A word of caution for the super fast runners – this course is not flat ! ... There are three inclines, two of which are quite extreme.”

“The course seems to climb for 7km, then free-fall down for 2km, then uphill again. But, we all knew that thanks to the detailed website with course map and elevation profile - nice touch for a small race.”

“The race is a challenge, and you know you've done well when you finish. Even better though is the slick organisation - no queues for the toilets, just a few seconds to collect your race pack and free t-shirt, short walk to the start (marshalled well to get eveybody in predicted finishing-time sequence), lots of locals out cheering on, hog-roast, a bar, cheap tea & coffee, two water stations, free water & fresh fruit at the end, etc, etc.”

“Special thanks to all the local volunteers, who all smiled and cheerfully helped out in the race HQ, etc.”

“What impressed me most was the value-for-money. For just a tenner you get a smartly designed brand-name t-shirt (in a range of sizes), chip timing, free car-parking and the free fruit and water afterwards. You simply can't imagine how they can organise this event for so little entry fee. Top marks to the organisers for their hard work to make it all happen.”

“There were even t-shirts left over at the end, only three pounds fifty each. What a bargain!”

“Make sure you prepare for those relentless hills, then come and enjoy one of the best kept secrets in the south of England!”

“I love this type of race. It had a real village summer fayre feeling about it. Amazingly well organised, with nice touches like the hog roast at the end. Bottle of water and a piece of fruit at the end, and a free t shirt. This event is definitely on the up and deservedly so. THANKS TO EVERYONE INVOLVED IN ORGANISING IT - I'll be back in '08.”

“Well organised event, I applaud all the volunteers for getting up early on a Sunday and working in such wet conditions. If it wasn't for people like this, these events couldn't happen. Thumbs up, see you next year!”

“Hilly course so not much chance of a PB. Excellent marshals and plenty of support considering the weather this did not put the locals off coming out. Fresh fruit at the end of the race very good idea. To all the people involved VERY WELL DONE.”

“Fantastic race one of the best for value and friendliness a very wet day but not as bad as Alton 10. It would have been so easy to take the t-shirt and do a runner after all not many races would give the prize before the race. Thanks a great shirt. not a brilliant run for me but the organisation and the whole thing was brilliant. A lovely refreshing orange at the finish, and thanks to the ladies who opened a packet of biscuits for me with my tea. I hate chocolate. altogether a big thank you to all.”

“Superb race, excellent organisation - despite the weather!! First of all, enormous thanks to all who were involved in the organisation of the event. Real shame about the weather, but this did not dim the atmosphere at the event. Beautiful course, but the hills are a killer - felt like packing it in at 2km, but kept going and the downhill sections restored my faith!! Finished in a reasonable sub-50min time - no PB, but did not expect to get one. Can't wait for 2008!”
