Sun 24 May 2009 - James Baker takes winners glory

In glorious sunny conditions, 407 competitors started this year’s Asics Ropley 10k Road Race, with total entries just short of the race limit of 500. The event, sponsored by Fyffes and Alton Sports, continues to attract a good sized field, with over 120 entrants on the day.

James Baker of Chichester Runners AC was the first man to finish in 33min 10secs, with Matthew King (unaffiliated) and Matthew Pearson (RAF) coming in 2nd and 3rd places respectively. Erica Fogg of New Forest Runners was the first woman to complete the course in 40min 26secs, followed by Lynne Whitaker of Romsey Road Runners and Helen Wallington of Southampton Running club.

Portsmouth Joggers took the honours in the Men’s Team awards and Andover AC in the Women’s Team awards.

In addition to the main event, The Watercress Line sponsored the children’s 3km Fun Run and 500m & 100m Dash. The children’s events were well supported and demonstrated that there are a number of future serious athletes in the making. It should also be noted that the older runners are every bit as competitive determined as the rising stars - Michael Aimable, the eldest competitor at 82, posted a time of 1 hour 43 mins & was given a warm welcome home.

Good weather helped generate a vibrant atmosphere and the event was well attended by both competitors and spectators. A special thank you to Hampshire Police for their support in making this event safe in times when organising events such as these is getting more & more intense.

Wed 29 April 2009 - Fit ? Unfit ? Up for a Challenge ? Read on ...

Feeling a tad lethargic ? ... or just seem to have lost the oomph ? ... looking for a magic fix ? ...

Sorry, nothing we can do for you ! (we don't/can't do magic fixes) ...

... what you are looking for is a new challenge ... you know ... something to rekindle the energy you once had ... put the spring back in your step ... and revitalise your soul ...

... AND, as it happens we do have exactly what you need ... a pleasant stride, (well, er, race actually - but that's a minor detail), around the local Hampshire countryside in the company of friendly likeminded (okay, some might say, slightly crazy) runners/joggers/etc/etc (you get the idea) ...

... yes folks, you've got it right here on your doorstep ... the opportunity to get fit for, and in, this year's Ropley 10k ! ...

Last year, BBC Radio Solent's roving reporter Matt Treacy did exactly that - and all for the Jon Cuthill show (on BBC Radio Solent)'. Check out his experience of the lead up to the event and the race day itself on Matt Treacy's Blog. If you can't manage that, we have his race day video right here for you ...

Matt did it ... and, trust me ... YOU CAN DO IT ...

... you know it makes sense ... and the oomph will come back with a vengeance ! ... what more could you want ? ...

... that's it then, what are you waiting for ? ... download the entry form today, it's a doddle to fill in ... get it sent it off - before the limited number of places are taken ...

Oh - and don't forget the closing date for postal entries is Saturday 9th May 2009 !

Check the 2009 Events page for full details ...

... and we look forward to seeing you on May 24th at the start line ...
