Sun 25 May 2008 - Matthew King is 2008 race winner

In spite of the threat of bad weather, 403 competitors started this year's Race.

Matthew King of Winchester & District AC was the first man home in a respectable time of 33min 18secs, followed by Stuart Fox of Bournemouth AC and Ronnie Adams of Portsmouth Joggers.

Cath Wheeler of Overton Harriers was the first woman across the line in 39min 23secs, with Erica Fogg of Belgrave Harriers and Lynne Whitaker of Romsey Road Runners taking 2nd and 3rd place.

Bournemouth AC triumphed in the Men's Team and Alton Runners in the Women's Team awards.

The event was well supported by both competitors and spectators and attracted runners from as far afield as the USA.

In addition to the 10k event, the children's events attracted 59 entrants for the dash and 58 entrants for the 3km Fun Run and has helped to raise funds for The Sophie Barringer Trust, which supports child cancer sufferers and their families.
